After last night’s rain, temperatures have sunken to the 40s in Austin. It’s fitting, then, that I’m starting the day off with Memory Tapes, one of the emerging chillwave artists.
The band line-up here is a simple two-piece guitar/vocals, drums/backing-track technician combo, but the sound is a full electronic (sometimes soulful) pop that I find myself preferring over fellow chill-wavers like Neon Indian, who I caught Wednesday. This might be the best group of the subgenre—well worth checking out.
