There is no doubt that The Velvet Underground is a hugely important band. Though they sold far fewer records during their lifespan, the group’s influence is arguably as great as that of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones or even Elvis. Similarly, there are far fewer books on the group, probably because of frontman Lou Reed’s distate for music journalists. As such, Seeing the Light: Inside the Velvet Underground, which features interviews with drummer Moe Tucker, bassist Doug Yule, and Martha Morrison, the widow of guitarist Sterling Morrison, is an indispensable read.
